What is Behaviour Intervention?

Behaviour intervention is a strategy designed to help children who are struggling with challenging behaviours including not following directions, disrupting the class, and having difficulty managing their emotions.

What is the goal of Behaviour Intervention?

The goal is not to punish the child but to understand the reasons behind the behaviour and help the child learn more positive ways to meet their needs. By providing structured support and guidance, behaviour interventions aim to promote the child’s overall development, both socially and academically.

Behaviour Intervention Services

Our service offers consultation and coaching for parents of children who are aged 3 years to 16 years old.

Parents can access support to learn strategies and techniques for helping their children in the following areas:

  • Toolkit and visual supports for participation in daily routines (e.g., building visual schedules, ect.)

  • Life skills and resources
(e.g., teeth brushing, hair brushing, dressing, etc.)

Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders

Speech Sound
Disorders

Orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMD) occur when there is an abnormal muscle pattern of the lips, tongue, or jaw during rest, speech or swallowing.

Common signs of OMDs include:

  • Prolonged oral habits (thumb/finger sucking, pacifier use)

  • Chronic open mouth posture

  • Low, forward tongue position at rest or while swallowing

  • Chronic speech sound distortions

Speech sound disorders, which include articulation and phonological delays/disorders, impact the ability to produce individual sounds (or sound combinations) in words.

Common speech sound errors include:

  • ‘w’ for ‘l’ or ‘r’

  • ‘t/d’ for ‘k/g’

  • Deleting a sound within a word (e.g., 'nake' for "snake" or 'ha' for "hat")

Childhood Apraxia of Speech

Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a motor speech disorder which makes it difficult for a child to carry out the movements required to speak.

Common signs of CAS in children include:

  • Limited babbling or sound play as a baby

  • Difficulty combining and sequencing sounds or syllables to produce words clearly

  • Inconsistent speech errors ( i.e., not saying words the same way every time)

Fluency Disorders

Fluency disorders and stuttering disrupt effortless, smooth speech.

Common signs of stuttering include:

  • Repetition of sounds, parts of words, or whole words

  • Drawing out a sound or part of a word

  • Getting stuck or tension when trying to say part of a word or a whole word

  • Running out of air while speaking

Literacy Intervention

Literacy intervention focuses on phonemic awareness (how letters represent sounds/phonemes) and reading strategies. We combine 3+ evidence, based reading programs to help struggling readers excel.

Common signs of difficulty with phonemic awareness include:

  • Struggling with sounding out words

  • Difficulty identifying the sounds that letters make

  • Difficulty segmenting, blending, adding, deleting sounds within words
